My two boys and I were camping over the weekend near Lake Tahoe, and my older son asked me a very interesting question. He said, "Dad, your Mom was pretty liberal, right? And your Dad was more of a Libertarian. So, how did you end up so conservative?"
Great question. And I was more than happy to provide my theory behind that, which I now pose to you. Your comments are welcome.
I believe that human beings are born with certain innate values. Those values generally fall into the category I would consider to be conservative: Traditional nuclear family, a basic value for human life, self-sufficiency, a desire to love one another, those types of things. Liberalism, on the other hand, is something that I believe we are taught. When children are exposed to liberal concepts long enough, they begin to believe them, thus the success of the "indoctrination" of our children by the U. S. schools.
I could go on, but I'm interested in your thoughts. What do you have to say? Can you be born a Liberal? Or are we taught to be liberal?
